About me

My Background

My passion has always been teaching. I started classroom teaching over 20 years ago. Throughout my career, I have taught students from kindergarten to college levels.   In 2009, I began tutoring in addition to teaching.

Now, I only tutor and focus on each student individually.

I have a Bachelor's in Education and a Masters in Teaching.

I love helping students learn!

Benefits of One-On-One Tutoring

There are many advantages to learning and practicing skills in a on-on-one setting:

  • Having fewer distractions helps your student stay on track.
  • Your student builds confidence through practicing skills in a low-stress setting.
  • Increased positive feedback from the tutor encourages your student.
  • Feedback is immediate, so your student knows when he or she is on the right track.
  • Your student has to do the work and not rely on others to do it.
  • Individualized explanations, examples, methods, and communication ensure your student understands what to do and how to do it.
  • The tutor can pinpoint the skills that your student has mastered versus the skills where he or she needs the most support.

Personalized Methods

Tutoring is the perfect place to personalize methods and activities for your student. As a classroom teacher and as a tutor, I have continued to discover many approaches to learning. There are multiple methods to help your student learn the same skills and concepts. I will find and apply what works best with your student in learning each new skill.

Students need to be comfortable with the learning environment in order for their brains to absorb and remember the information. To help increase a student's comfort level, I start by getting to know him or her personally: interests, stressors, activities that the student enjoys, etc. Then, I can incorporate these things into our lessons.

Brains love color. Using color to learn and review helps the brain remember concepts that students are learning. In tutoring, we use color with all ages to enhance your student's learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact me if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes! I make online tutoring available. Feel free to contact me if online tutoring is a preference, or even a necessity for your family.

Of course, this depends on the student and the subject matter. In my experience, students benefit more from tutoring when they come more than once per week. It is difficult to maintain growth over a week's time. It is easier to stay on top of what is being taught in the classroom when a student attends tutoring sessions at least twice per week.

Students benefit most from tutoring when it is a one-on-one situation. I have tutored more than one student at a time, but this is not ideal. Contact me to discuss this situation more.
